  • The Story of the Weed Leaf: From Icon and art to Inspiration

The cannabis leaf—known by many names, from weed leaf to pot leaf—is more than just an image; it's a symbol that has transcended decades, counter-cultures, and even continents. For those of us entrenched in cannabis culture, the leaf is iconic, embodying everything from the rebellious spirit of the 60s to the modern wellness movement. As a photographer and brand storyteller, I've witnessed how the macro weed leaf captures attention, evokes emotions, and tells its own story. "The cannabis leaf isn't just an image; it’s a symbol that resonates on a visceral level, connecting generations of enthusiasts." The Visual Appeal of the Weed Leaf The cannabis leaf is naturally eye-catching, with its sharp edges, symmetrical structure, and vibrant green hues. As someone who grew up photographing raw scenes of punk rock and underground hip-hop, I recognize a unique aesthetic when I see it, and the weed leaf delivers just that. It has a shape that’s both recognizable and adaptable, making it a favorite for weed leaf wallpaper, merchandise, and even cool weed leaf drawings that range from intricate designs to minimalist sketches. Whether you’re a cannabis connoisseur or a designer looking for inspiration, the leaf’s structure is a playground for creativity. From tattoo art to product branding, the leaf manages to represent everything from relaxation to rebellion. Weed Leaf Symbolism in Branding In cannabis branding, the marijuana leaf or pot leaf holds massive visual and cultural weight. When I co-founded Maryland Connoisseur, I understood that creating a sophisticated yet relatable cannabis brand meant more than just slapping a leaf on a logo. It meant respecting the heritage of the plant while elevating its presentation. For cannabis brands, a carefully crafted cannabis leaf image can strike the perfect balance between accessibility and exclusivity, which is essential in a market with increasingly discerning consumers. "Using the cannabis leaf in branding is about more than aesthetics; it’s about aligning with a lifestyle, a vibe, and a community." The Weed Leaf as Art: Beyond a Symbol The cannabis leaf has become a canvas for countless interpretations, inspiring everything from fine art to street murals. Weed art isn’t just about replicating the leaf; it’s about infusing it with emotion, personality, and perspective. I’ve always been fascinated by how artists reinterpret the leaf to align with different art movements—whether it's bold, abstract styles reminiscent of the 60s psychedelic scene, or refined, art nouveau-inspired designs that celebrate the natural beauty of the plant. In my own work, I've incorporated the cannabis leaf into compositions that reflect various movements, like cubism or abstract expressionism, because it allows for both familiarity and reinvention. As a photographer, capturing weed art means focusing not only on the leaf's intricate details but also on the broader cultural narrative it embodies. From cool weed leaf drawings to striking weed leaf wallpapers, cannabis-inspired art pieces are now part of the lifestyle, adorning dispensaries, packaging, and homes. The leaf, transformed through art, becomes a statement, a mood, and a celebration of cannabis culture in a way that’s as unique as each artist’s style. "The cannabis leaf isn’t just a symbol; in the hands of an artist, it becomes an experience—a way to see cannabis culture through a creative lens." The Many Faces of the Cannabis Leaf Not all cannabis leaves are the same, and each has its unique appeal and connotations. Here’s a breakdown of the different types and uses: Classic Weed Leaf : The iconic seven-lobed leaf most commonly associated with marijuana. Indica vs. Sativa Leaves : Indica leaves are generally wider and bushier, while sativa leaves are slender and elongated, each symbolizing different effects and experiences. Weed Plant Leaf for Cultivators : Growers recognize leaves as indicators of a plant’s health, nutrients, and lifecycle. Leaf Weed Art : Many artists create cool weed leaf drawings that celebrate the plant’s beauty, often seen in graffiti, mural art, and tattoo culture. Personal Insights into Photographing the Cannabis Leaf for a THC-Infused Drink Campaign Photographing cannabis leaves isn’t just about snapping a photo; it’s about capturing the plant’s essence and allure. The intricate textures—from the deep greens to the frosty trichomes—make the cannabis leaf uniquely challenging and rewarding to photograph. I’ve learned to work with lighting, angles, and macro lenses to reveal the stunning details that bring the leaf to life. In a way, it reminds me of my early days capturing the rawness of punk shows—the leaf, like the music, has layers that can only be fully appreciated up close. For a recent shoot, I centered the weed leaf as the defining element in the visual campaign for a new THC-infused drink . The goal was to evoke a modern, sophisticated aesthetic that aligns with both wellness and lifestyle branding. The cannabis leaf became more than just an icon; it represented the product’s core identity, giving the drink an earthy yet refined appeal. We wanted to connect with consumers on a deeper level, portraying the drink not just as a product but as a statement within the cannabis experience. The result? A bold and stylish presentation that celebrated the cannabis leaf as both art and essence. This shoot captured the transition of the marijuana leaf from rebellious subculture symbol to mainstream icon, reflecting the new era of cannabis products that emphasize quality, wellness, and elevated design. Documenting this shift feels essential in a landscape where cannabis is increasingly woven into everyday life and luxury. Key Takeaways If you’re in cannabis branding or just a fan of the plant, here are some takeaways about the powerful role of the weed leaf: Iconic Visual : The weed leaf is universally recognizable and versatile, making it perfect for branding, art, and merchandise. Symbolism in Culture : From rebellion to relaxation, the leaf encapsulates different meanings that resonate with diverse audiences. Artistic Possibilities : Whether it’s weed leaf wallpaper, cool weed leaf drawings, or macro photography, the leaf provides endless creative potential. Cannabis Marketing Tool : A carefully integrated cannabis leaf can enhance brand identity and connect deeply with the audience. In a world where cannabis is becoming more accepted and understood, the weed leaf remains a steadfast icon, evolving alongside the industry itself. For those of us working to shape how cannabis is perceived, the leaf is more than an image; it’s a legacy we carry forward in every photo, every design, and every brand.

  • Understanding the Ounce of Weed: The Ultimate Guide

Buying an ounce of weed isn’t just about the quantity; it’s a whole experience wrapped up in history, culture, and practicality. Whether you're a seasoned cannabis consumer or new to the world of “grams to ounces,” understanding the ounce can help you get the most out of your purchase. So, let’s dig into everything you need to know about the iconic ounce of weed. What Is an Ounce of Weed? An ounce of weed, or 28 grams, is the most common measurement for cannabis. It’s just the right amount for frequent users who want a solid supply without diving into the cost or commitment of buying a pound (which, for context, is 16 ounces). A full ounce of weed is a tangible experience—it’s hefty, packed with potential, and when you open that bag or jar, you know you’re set for a while. “There’s something satisfying about holding an ounce of weed. It’s like holding a little bit of freedom in your hand.” How Much Is an Ounce of Weed? Prices vary based on quality, strain, and location, but in general: An ounce of weed  ranges from $100 for budget options to upwards of $300+ for premium strains. Half ounce of weed price ? Typically around half the price of a full ounce, but sometimes it’s slightly more per gram due to smaller quantity buys. Buying in ounces tends to be more economical than buying in grams or eighths (3.5 grams). The savings add up quickly, especially if you’re a regular consumer. Ounce in a Bag: From “Lids” to Modern Packaging Back in the day, weed was sold by the “lid” or measured by “four fingers” in a plastic sandwich baggie. The process was a little…let’s say, improvised. No scales, no branding, just a baggie and a smile from your local provider. A “lid” (often around an ounce) had this vibe that screamed counter-culture cool—a far cry from the sleek, branded containers we see today. Fast forward to now, and we have humidity-controlled, air-tight containers , complete with branding and even potency stats. It’s a blend of nostalgia and modern sophistication, like going from a vintage record store to a Spotify playlist. How Many Joints Can You Roll from an Ounce of Weed? A good question, and the answer depends on the size of your roll, but here’s a rough breakdown: Regular Joints : You can roll around 40-60 average-sized joints from an ounce. Blunts : Expect around 20 blunts if you’re rolling them generously. One-Hitters : You could pack roughly 120 one-hitters if you like stretching your stash. This is where buying an ounce really shines—especially if you’re the social type who loves sharing or experimenting with different methods. How Long Will an Ounce Last? How long an ounce lasts really depends on your consumption habits: Daily User : An ounce might last a couple of weeks. Weekend Warrior : You’re probably looking at a month or more. Special Occasion Smoker : An ounce could last you several months, making it a worthy investment. Grams to Ounces: A Quick Breakdown If you’re navigating the metric conversions: 1 ounce of weed  = 28 grams Half an ounce  = 14 grams Quarter of an ounce  = 7 grams Eighth of an ounce  = 3.5 grams Knowing these conversions helps whether you’re eyeballing a stash or understanding how much you’re getting for the price. Why Buy an Ounce? Buying an ounce is a smart choice for regular users for a few reasons: Cost-Effective : As mentioned, buying in bulk reduces the per-gram price. Convenient : No more running out and making frequent trips to the dispensary. Versatile : With an ounce, you have room to experiment—roll joints, pack blunts, or fill a pipe without worrying about using up your stash too fast. Key Takeaway: If you’re a frequent user, buying an ounce of weed is your best bet for savings and convenience. The Evolution of Weed Packaging: From Baggies to Branding An ounce of weed in the past was likely handed over in a flimsy baggie, lacking any sophistication but full of counter-culture charm. Modern packaging has transformed weed into a product with its own branding, humidity control, and often airtight containers to preserve quality. Now, brands invest in high-quality packaging to keep their products fresh and maintain terpenes, with labels boasting THC/CBD percentages and terpene profiles. It’s a mix of art, science, and culture, reflecting how cannabis has moved from underground culture to mainstream acceptance. Fun Facts: Ounce Terminology and Culture “Lid” and “Four Fingers” : In the 70s, cannabis was measured in lids or by the width of four fingers in a baggie, a nod to the DIY spirit of the era. Oz to Grams : Many folks still get confused, but just remember, 1 ounce = 28 grams. 420 Culture : Speaking of measurements, did you know 420 started as a code among California high school students? Now, it's celebrated worldwide. Key Takeaways Better Value : Buying an ounce of weed is cost-effective and convenient for regular users. Cultural Icon : From lids to branded jars, an ounce represents the evolution of cannabis culture. Versatile Amount : An ounce allows flexibility—perfect for rolling joints, packing blunts, or storing for later. How Long It Lasts : Your usage will vary, but an ounce typically lasts anywhere from two weeks to several months. “An ounce is like the Swiss Army knife of cannabis quantities—you’ve got options, and a whole lot of them.” Buying an ounce of weed isn’t just about saving money; it’s a statement, a celebration of cannabis culture . With roots in the rebellious 70s and branches in today’s refined, branded world, the ounce stands as a testament to how far cannabis has come. Whether you’re rolling a classic joint, trying out a fancy blunt, or simply stashing up, an ounce has you covered.

  • Curio Wellness Offers Up A Unique New Cannabis Lifestyle App - Wellness Your Way

To meet popular demand for attainable cannabis information, Curio Wellness is unveiling an easy and convenient way to access up-to-date information at the touch of a button! Available on the App Store and Google Play, the Curio app offers its users an introduction into the world of medical cannabis including: how to become a Maryland medical cannabis patient, applications for use, information for physicians, and a scientific but digestible breakdown of how medical cannabis works in the body. The brief blurbs found in the FAQs are a smooth introduction into the complex nature of cannabis. By using straightforward diagrams to depict the cannabinoid receptors, the app translates the intricate terminology found in cannabis research into a clear and understandable visual. For those who wish to dive deeper into the science, they have included links to the research studies in which this information was presented. Once the user is clear on what a cannabinoid is and how it interacts with the systems in our body, the next page lays out the most common cannabinoids in a table. If the user has a question that is not answered in the information provided, the app has provided a “Speak to an Expert'' tab that allows users to submit an email to a dedicated Curio Wellness staff member. I found that Curio’s app is accommodating accessibility by providing a resource for new or curious patients to contact an expert in the field. The expert can guide them through any difficulties they may be experiencing or inquiries they may have about products. After creating a profile with standard demographic and contact information, users are able to browse for products catered to their current needs. I found this to be particularly useful because I experience a variety of symptoms depending on the day and situation so this helps me find new products based on my symptoms and desired effect. I am also able to find the tried and true strains and products that I know help with the more persistent symptoms. Under the Product tab, all of Curio’s products are broken up by method of ingestion. This has made it easy to find the products I was looking for and will come in handy when my local dispensary is out of 40mg Black Cherry Vanilla Curio Chews! When I found the item that best suited my needs, I was able to see where it is available on the menu of every dispensary in Maryland that carries Curio’s products. Each location is displayed on a comprehensive and visual map, as well as in a list format. It uniquely highlights the flagship dispensary of Curio Wellness , becoming Far and Dotter. Here, you can be assured that you’ll receive comprehendible information from their highly trained staff. If you’re not up to make the drive to the dispensary, this app also offers an opportunity for users to reach out to an expert on Curio products under the Learn tab. I was easily able to use the app to locate a strain that I’ve found to help my anxiety, Wizard Punch. I found that it was available at the dispensary down the street from me and used the app to access their online menu to place an order. I found this to be much more user friendly than trying to filter through all the options on most menu services. I also had been traveling an extra distance to find the right products, but now I can see that they are available much closer to home, saving me money on gas and allowing me to buy an extra pre-roll. Once I had picked up my medicine, the Curio app let me document my experience with the strain including what condition I was attempting to treat with it, and how it made me feel. It asks for a rating of how effective the product was for me, the time of day that I used the product, and any notes I would have for myself for future reference. This is extremely helpful for trying new strains and products because it provides a space for me to journal about my experience and access them before I make my next choice at the dispensary. It is difficult to remember exactly how each product makes me feel, especially because I use a variety of products to help treat my conditions. Having a journal of past products will help me to focus in on what is helping and what I may need to change in my routine. The notes section is a good spot to document the dosage that I used and whether it was too much, not enough, or just right. Noting the time of day that I took the product was something that I had never thought to do in the past, but makes sense when trying to gauge the effectiveness of a product. For instance, when a strain makes me feel a bit sluggish, I can make a note that I had a less than pleasant experience medicating with it in the morning and remember to save that for bedtime medication. When I find something I especially like, I can share it with my friends and family that are looking for relief by using the “Share Product” function. This will send them a link to the product, allow them to read the information that is provided, and find it nearest to them. It’s also a great way to share general knowledge with people in my life that are new to cannabis. They can make an account of their own and learn where to begin, as starting out as a medical cannabis patient can be a less than straightforward process without the proper guidance. All in all, I found this app to be fairly user-friendly and a good way to learn more about what Curio has to offer. Despite some minor glitches, it was a smooth interface that could be easily navigated by someone who isn’t tech savvy. Whether the user is just beginning their journey into medical cannabis or they have been a patient for years, the Curio app offers a unique way to find essential information about products best suited for their needs.

  • How to Choose the Right CBD Strain for Insomnia Relief

Insomnia is a common sleep disorder that affects millions worldwide, making restful sleep feel elusive. CBD (cannabidiol) has emerged as a natural alternative for those seeking relief from sleep disorders, offering calming effects without the psychoactive "high" associated with THC. But not all CBD strains are created equal. Some strains are particularly beneficial for promoting relaxation and sleep, while others are more suited for daytime use. Here’s a guide on choosing the right CBD strain for insomnia relief, helping you achieve a better night’s sleep naturally. Personal Experience: Why I Use a Heavy Indica Strain As an artist, my mind can sometimes feel like it’s always running. Ideas flow even when I want to relax, and it can be challenging to “turn it off” at night. For me, a heavy indica strain is my go-to for winding down. Its full-body relaxation and deep calming effects create the peace I need to drift off. I’ve tried other methods, but an indica CBD strain provides that sense of wellness and sleep support that’s hard to find elsewhere. Knowing firsthand how challenging insomnia can be, I’m passionate about sharing tips to help others find their path to peaceful rest through the right CBD strain.   Key Factors to Consider When Choosing a CBD Strain for Sleep 1. CBD to THC Ratio    For insomnia, a CBD-dominant strain with a low THC content (below 0.3%) is often preferred, as this helps avoid psychoactive effects that might disrupt sleep. Higher CBD content promotes relaxation without causing euphoria.    Some people find that a small amount of THC, when combined with CBD, enhances the strain's sedative effects, especially when it contains a balance of both cannabinoids. 2. Terpene Profile    Terpenes, the aromatic compounds in cannabis, have unique effects and contribute significantly to a strain’s therapeutic potential.    For insomnia, look for strains rich in myrcene, linalool, and terpinolene. Myrcene has sedative properties, linalool promotes calmness and relaxation, and terpinolene supports restful sleep. 3. Full-Spectrum vs. Broad-Spectrum CBD    Full-spectrum CBD includes a broad range of cannabinoids, including trace amounts of THC (under 0.3%), as well as terpenes, flavonoids, and other beneficial compounds.    Broad-spectrum CBD contains multiple cannabinoids and terpenes but is THC-free. For those concerned about THC intake, broad-spectrum may be ideal while still offering some of the benefits associated with the "entourage effect" (the synergistic effect of combined cannabinoids and terpenes). 4. Strain Type: Indica-Dominant for Sleep    Indica strains are generally preferred for insomnia due to their calming and sedative effects, whereas Sativa strains are typically more energizing.    Indica-dominant hybrid strains can also be beneficial, especially if they contain specific terpenes that promote sleep. How CBD Can Improve Sleep Quality and Promote Restful Nights CBD (cannabidiol) has gained attention for its ability to enhance sleep quality by addressing common factors that contribute to insomnia and sleep disturbances. Known for reducing anxiety, CBD interacts with brain receptors tied to mood regulation, like the serotonin receptor, helping promote relaxation. For many, this can alleviate racing thoughts, making it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep. CBD’s influence on the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) may also help regulate natural sleep-wake cycles, supporting those with irregular schedules or circadian rhythm disruptions. Additionally, CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties can reduce physical discomfort, allowing people dealing with chronic pain to experience a more restful night. With the ability to lengthen REM sleep and reduce sleep disturbances, CBD is even beneficial for individuals with conditions like PTSD, where nightmares or night terrors interfere with restorative rest. What sets CBD apart from traditional sleep aids is its potential to improve sleep without causing morning grogginess or dependency. By supporting both nighttime relaxation and daytime wakefulness, CBD offers a balanced approach that promotes a more natural sleep cycle, making it easier to maintain a regular sleep schedule. For those seeking non-habit-forming, holistic options for sleep quality, CBD’s calming and anti-inflammatory effects provide a gentle yet effective solution that prioritizes overall wellness. Top CBD Strains for Insomnia Relief Based on the above criteria, here are some CBD strains renowned for their sleep-inducing properties: 1. Harlequin       Profile : High CBD-to-THC ratio, myrcene-rich     Effects : Relaxing and calming without heavy sedation     Best for : Those seeking mild relaxation without strong sedation 2. Charlotte’s Web       Profile : Broad-spectrum, low THC, rich in linalool and myrcene     Effects : Soothing, anxiety-relieving, promotes deep sleep     Best for : Those needing calmness and sleep aid without a “high” 3. ACDC       Profile : High CBD content, myrcene and pinene rich     Effects: Mildly sedative, reduces anxiety and promotes relaxation    Best for: Evening use, helps unwind and ease into sleep 4. Remedy       Profile : Indica-dominant, full-spectrum, with a calming terpene profile     Effects: Eases muscle tension, relieves stress, encourages rest     Best for : Deep relaxation and gentle sedation 5. Pennywise       Profile : Equal parts CBD and THC, rich in linalool     Effects : Reduces anxiety, provides light sedation     Best for: Evening use, when mild THC is acceptable for better sleep  Brand Reviews: Best CBD Products for Insomnia Relief 1. Lazarus Naturals Full Spectrum CBD Tincture    Why I Recommend It: This full-spectrum CBD tincture contains all the beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes, including trace THC, to maximize the entourage effect. It’s a potent option, especially for those who, like me, need a more significant relaxation aid after an active day. Pros: Potent formula, reliable sleep support, certified organic. Cons: Earthy taste; some may prefer a flavored option. 2. Sunday Scaries CBD Gummies    Why I Recommend It: These gummies are broad-spectrum and THC-free, making them ideal for anyone concerned about THC intake. The addition of vitamins like B12 and D3 adds a wellness boost, supporting sleep without the risk of grogginess. Pros: Great for beginners, easy to dose, and pleasant flavor. Cons: Lower potency than tinctures; may require more for strong effects .  Comparison with Other Sleep Aids When choosing CBD strains over traditional sleep aids, it’s helpful to consider how they stack up in effectiveness, side effects, and natural benefits: Sleep Aid Effectiveness Side Effects Natural Benefits CBD Strains Effective for relaxation & sleep Mild side effects (e.g., dry mouth) Natural, supports the ECS Melatonin Promotes sleep onset Grogginess, vivid dreams Hormone regulator, natural sleep OTC Sleep Medications Fast-acting for sleep onset Drowsiness, tolerance build-up Not natural, may disrupt sleep cycles Valerian Root Mildly effective, calming Potential stomach upset Herbal, holistic approach While sleep medications may act faster, many find that CBD offers a more holistic, sustainable approach to sleep wellness with fewer downsides. For insomnia relief, especially when sleep quality is impacted by anxiety or restlessness, CBD strains are a preferred choice for those seeking a natural remedy.  Final Thoughts: Choosing the Right CBD Strain for Insomnia Finding the right CBD strain for insomnia relief can involve a bit of trial and error, as individual reactions to cannabinoids and terpenes vary. However, by focusing on strains that are CBD-dominant, terpene-rich, and Indica-leaning, you can find a natural solution to help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. As always, consult with a healthcare provider before beginning a new sleep aid, especially if you’re already taking medication for insomnia. With careful selection and mindful use, the right CBD strain could be the key to finally achieving restful, rejuvenating sleep. Key Takeaways CBD for Relaxation: CBD can help reduce anxiety and promote relaxation, creating a calm mental environment for sleep. Supports Natural Sleep Cycles: By interacting with the endocannabinoid system, CBD may help regulate sleep-wake cycles and support circadian rhythms. Pain Relief and Comfort: CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties can relieve physical discomfort, aiding in a more restful sleep. Non-Habit-Forming Solution: Unlike traditional sleep aids, CBD offers a gentle, non-addictive alternative that promotes natural sleep quality. Choosing the Right Strain: Selecting a CBD strain with the right balance of cannabinoids and terpenes is essential for targeted insomnia relief.

  • Macro Mania: Focused Stacked Macro Photos & Music Video Clips + PetaPixel Magazine Feature

I have been taking a lot of macro and stacked focus macro images the last couple months and taking advantage of some new equipment from Edelkrone for a few macro spin & zoom music video clips. I was very honored to be featured by one of my favorite photography websites and magazines: PetaPixel Magazine: Meet the Photographer Carving out a Niche in Cannabis . Here are some of the live plant cuttings and dried flower macro images: As I mentioned these are focused stacked images, meaning they are composites of 20-30 individual images that are then combined together and super cropped so you can see most everything in focus. Standard macro images have incredibly shallow depth of field so even if you shot @ a very high aperture you'd only get a tiny slice in focus, the focus stacking technique is able to overcome this limitation as you can clearly see. I used my fully manual Laowa 100mm f2.8 2x Macro Prime lens, this lens is incredibly tack sharp and a worthy investment. Here are two of the macro spin & zoom video clips from the four video series, please watch full-screen for the full on effect: This is for Alt-Sol Cannabis Cherry Diesel Strain, one very badass plant as you can see for yourself. I shot this vertically with my cinema rig @ 4k 60fps @ f11 to get more in focus, as the shutter speed and aperture were high I had to use powerful lights close up. I used two Godox vl150's at nearly full power to get the look I wanted. My new Edelkrone motion system as well as the cutting was the star of the show here, allowing me to do push ins, pans and zooms relatively easy with their app based control panel that gives you total control. For the video I used my Sony 90mm f2.8 Macro G OSS lens, which is my workhorse glass. I combined the 4k video with quick transitions into 14k macro images that allowed for some pretty epic pan and zooms in Final Cut Pro all the way down to the single individual trichome in the Bruce Banner video below. The concept of the video was to start with a shot of the plant spinning, wide angled so you can see the whole cutting, then jump cut to ever closer shots using push ins, pan zooms to focus on the intact trichomes that are HIGHLY prized among connoisseur cannabis brands and aficionados everywhere. The crunchy alt-rock guitars are on brand for Alt-Sol Cannabis . This is the video clip for Bruce Banner, again shot @ 4k 60fps @ f11, this was the first of the batch and one of my favorites overall. If you want to check out all the macro spin & zoom video clips they are HERE

  • Exploring the Story of Maryland: A Unique Cannabis Dispensary in Hyattsville, MD

Recently, I had the opportunity to work with Story of Maryland , a new dispensary in Hyattsville, MD that combines a modern aesthetic with Maryland’s cannabis culture. Their interior design immediately caught my eye—minimal yet striking, with unfinished black ceilings, bold red typography, dark wood cabinets, and semi-finished cement floors. You don’t often see this level of thoughtful design in a cannabis dispensary near me, making Story of Maryland a standout among dispensaries near me. Capturing the In-House Cannabis Brands Story of Maryland isn’t just a recreational dispensary; they’re a licensed MD cultivator, too. They showcase three in-house brands, each with a unique identity: Old School: This brand pays homage to traditional cannabis culture, with a classic, no-fuss appeal. Scratch: Inspired by street culture, this elite brand nods to the world of b-boy and DJ scenes—perfect for those who appreciate a little edge in their experience. Bones: Their pre-roll brand, though there were no products available for this shoot, carries a strong presence through its branding elements. Behind the Scenes: Photographing the Store and Staff I set up a mini studio in the back to capture the staff in action. With a Rembrandt-style three-point lighting setup, I aimed for a moody, on-brand vibe that highlighted the staff’s personalities and their favorite products. While no customers came in during the shoot, I managed to capture some engaging shots of the team sharing their experiences at Story of Maryland, each one a testament to the passionate crew behind this weed dispensary.   Final Touches and a Future Vision After wrapping up the interior shots, I grabbed a final image of the exterior, bathed in sunlight. Spending the morning there, I was able to capture the essence of Story of Maryland. And while this was just a half-day shoot, there’s talk of a future video project featuring staff interviews, customer testimonials, music, and b-roll footage of the dispensary. If you’re searching for a recreational dispensary near me with a unique story and carefully crafted ambiance, stay tuned for more insights into Story of Maryland. Whether you’re in the Hyattsville area or simply looking to experience a dispensary with a bit more flair, Story of Maryland is worth checking out. Here's a 30 second video clip I made using the content from this shoot:

  • This Is STRANE - Minimalist Holiday Shoot

The planning started in late November with the social media director for Holistic Industries , the brief was as simple as it was difficult... Do a holiday shoot with no religious imagery, make it non-traditional and On Brand . I gathered the required materials from the dispensary and props from several online stores, and we did a final meeting on the overall look and aesthetic then I was off. I started off rather minimal and used just red to signify the season here. This is a shot I had been wanting to do for awhile and I'm glad to be able to execute it with a Puffco and some Strane extracts, a mix of hard and soft light. The next few I started to build off simply then building more complex scenes as I was piggy backing off the last image: The shot list included group shots with accessories and the products themselves, using some leading lines and forced perspective I started to add more elements to the overall scenes building into some pleasing complex yet minimal shots: I used black and silver bulbs as shiny objects props building busier whilst enjoying some other "product" I had from my personal stash, as the mood/high developed the images were as well in tandem. This session was kind of complex, as the planning/organizing was a bit involved but once I got into the studio the creative flow was blissful even as the work was complex, it's the art and science of what I do as a photographer.
