Laowa f2.8 100mm 2x – A versatile choice with 2x magnification, ideal for detailed close-ups that fill the frame.
Laowa f2.8 25mm 2.5-5x – A manual lens designed for extreme close-up work, offering magnification from 2.5x to 5x, perfect for capturing intricate details like the individual trichomes on a cannabis bud.
Sony G-Master f2.8 90mm 1x – With 1:1 magnification and auto-focus, this lens is incredibly reliable, capturing clean, sharp images while providing flexibility in the field.
Combined with my Sony a7R V 61 MP professional camera, these lenses create exceptional macro images. The high magnification power of these lenses, paired with the camera’s incredible resolving power, allows me to capture even the tiniest details with absolute clarity.
The a7R V’s 61 MP sensor reveals textures, colors, and structures in a way that standard setups simply can’t match, especially under demanding conditions in a grow facility.
2. Portable Lighting: Godox AD200 Pro with Collapsible Softboxes
Lighting is a defining factor in macro photography. For controlled, portable lighting, I use Godox AD200 Pro flashes paired with collapsible softboxes. This setup provides just the right diffusion and intensity, illuminating each subject without overpowering the finer textures. In grow rooms, where lighting is often harsh and unpredictable, the Godox flash and softbox combination ensures I capture every trichome and texture with a natural, balanced light.
